Fur the 'More 2022
Fur the 'More 2022 was the ninth iteration of the Fur the 'More convention. It took place March 4-6, 2022 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City hotel in Arlington, Virginia.[1] The theme was "Furries & Fedoras".
The Guest of Honor for Fur the 'More 2022 was writer NightEyes DaySpring, and the convention's musical guest was Citrine Husky.[2][3]
The event had an attendance of 1,232 and 266 fursuiters participated in the fursuit parade. A total of $5,600 was raised for the convention's charity, Casa Ruby.[4]
Controversy[edit]
In May 2022 the founder of Casa Ruby, Ruby Corado, withdrew "tens of thousands of dollars in nonprofit funds" and fled the United States for El Salvador. The charity and its shelter for homeless LGBTQ+ youth ceased operation in July and many of the charity's employees reportedly had not been paid in weeks.[5] On August 2, 2022 the Mid-Atlantic Anthropomorphic Association, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that hosts Fur the 'More, released a statement on Twitter expressing their "shock and dismay" over the incident, stating that neither the convention nor any of its volunteers had any involvement with the theft, and that all funds were paid to the charity shortly after the end of the convention in March.[6]
Ruby Corado was later arrested at a hotel in Laurel, Maryland in March 2024 after making and "unexpected return" to the United States and pleaded guilty to wire fraud in July.[7]
