FurPlanet is a furry owned and operated print-on-demand publishing company, offering publishing and distribution services to independent artists, writers and musicians. FurPlanet can produce a variety of products including comic books, magazines, novels, card decks, music and art CDs, and art prints.

The company is based in Dallas, Texas, USA.

History and operations[edit]

FurPlanet was founded by Nexxus and was previously the official online store for FurNation Multimedia, but was purchased by FuzzWolf[1] and, as of March 1, 2008[2], operates independently of FurNation.

In 2007, Bad Dog Books partnered with FurPlanet, which now provides the lion's share of BDB's printing needs, both for sale by FurPlanet itself and resale to third-party vendors. FurPlanet fully acquired Bad Dog Books as an imprint in 2011.[3]

From issues 8 through 12 FurPlanet was the printer for Sabrina Online, published by United Publications.

FurPlanet also distributes books and games for Sofawolf Press.

FurPlanet was the Writing Guest of Honor at RainFurrest 2013,[4] and the Guest of Honor at Arizona Fur Con 2013.[5]

Novels[edit]

Cupcakes[edit]

Cupcakes is a line of novellas - works of fiction that fall between short stories and novels - the result of authors Kyell Gold, Rikoshi and foozzzball teaming up with publisher FurPlanet in 2009, with the first in the series being published in 2010.

The name came about because full length novels are, as Gold describes them, cakes, and so the stories produced by the Cupcakes brand are "the same flavor and quality, but in a smaller size".[6] Gold also explained that the emphasis in the writing would be on the characters - "One of the things that really ties our work together that we all really agree on and feel passionate about is that our stories are all, at the core, about the characters. And for all three of us, character comes first."[6]

As of January 2013, the series comprises six works - Bridges, Science Friction and Winter Games written by Kyell Gold, The Peculiar Quandary of Simon Canopus Artyle written by Kevin Frane, Dangerous Jade written by foozzzball and Indigo Rain written by Watts Martin.

Argyll Productions[edit]

Argyll Productions is an alternate imprint of FurPlanet. Where the FurPlanet name is used on works primarily targeted at the furry community, Argyll is used for works believed to have broader appeal to science fiction and fantasy readers.

Conventions[edit]

FurPlanet sets up as a vendor at six to twelve furry conventions per year and previously offered conbook printing services. FurPlanet has printed conbooks for: Rocket City FurMeet 2006, Furry Weekend Atlanta 2007, RainFurrest 2007, Oklacon 2007, Rocket City FurMeet 2007, Rocket City FurMeet 2008, Oklacon 2008, Furry Fiesta 2009, Oklacon 2009 and Furry Fiesta 2010.
