DeviantArt (formerly stylized deviantART) is one of the largest online art galleries and discussion sites, with over 19 million registered members as of August, 2012.[1]

DeviantArt does not allow pornographic, sexually explicit and/or obscene material to be submitted;[2] however, "tasteful" nudity is allowed, even as photographs. Recently, sexually explicit and obscene materials will be submitted behind paywall of DeviantART once the illustrator has a subscription. [3]

DeviantArt and furry[edit]

Since August 2006, DeviantArt has a top-level anthropomorphic category, potentially exposing a greater proportion of the DeviantArt audience to anthropomorphic art. Many professional anthro artists submit their work here as well as amateurs.

Various "clubs" have been formed to connect the furry community on DeviantArt, similar to communities on LiveJournal. A handful of anthro-oriented chat rooms have also formed since August 2004.[citation needed]

However, despite a big presence of anthro art on DeviantArt, the growth of anthro and furry users (and their influence) is mediocre.[citation needed] The administrators are impartial towards furries.[citation needed] The user agreement form[citation needed] disallowing trolling is strictly enforced, which has had a inadvertent benefit[clarify] for the furry community on DeviantArt greatly.[citation needed]

In August 2011, DeviantArt's staff initiated a discussion called When being human just isn't enough, about anthropomorphic art and the viewer's connection to it.

Mascot[edit]

Fella, a small anthropomorphic robotic cat character, is the official DeviantArt mascot.

Smartphone Application[edit]

In 2014, DeviantArt released a mobile app for Android use. It can be used for posting art and searching for it as well.[4]
