Overview[edit]
Organized by Anthropomorphic Events Incorporated Organization United (AEIOU), a 501(c)3, Denfur (briefly Mile High Fur Con) was created to replace the defunct Rocky Mountain Fur Con.
History[edit]
The first DenFur was held August 24-26, 2018, at the Crowne Plaza Denver Airport Convention Center[1], and saw 2,086 attendees[2], along with $15,000 raised for charity[3]. The theme was "Rebuild" and the guests of honor were Kenket[4], Mischief Makers[5], Strobes[6], Majira Strawberry[7], 22mg[8], and Sunny Dingo[9]. DenFur's first-year attendance broke the previous first-year convention attendance record.[10]
The second DenFur was held August 2-4, 2019, with the theme "Space Exploration."[11] There were 2736 attendees, 334 fursuiters, with $15,000 raised for charity[12]. This convention was featured in some scenes of the film: The Fandom (documentary).
DenFur 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
DenFur returned in 2021 from August 20-22 with a theme based on Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail. There were 2,566 attendees.[13]The convention moved to its current home at the Sheraton Downtown Denver, formerly the Adam's Mark Hotel, the host of the first Rocky Mountain Fur Con in 2007. The guests of honor were the filmmaker Ash Coyote[14], artist Ritz Bitz[15], and tattoo artist Foxene Starr[16]. The charity selected was the "Tenacious Unicorn Ranch".
For 2022, DenFur returned to the Sheraton August 19-21. The theme was based on Alice in Wonderland. Guests of Honor were AC Stuart, Spainimation, and Fortuna. There were 2,961 attendees, 522 fursuiters in the parade and the convention raised $21,827.65 for its charity, Horseback Miracles. [17]
DenFur returned to the Sheraton Downtown Denver in 2023 from August 18-20 with a theme of "Wild West Rocky Mountain Gold Rush." There were 4,232 attendees, 769 fursuiters in the parade, and the convention raised $25,000 for its returning charity, Horseback Miracles.
DenFur 2024 was again held at the Sheraton August 23-25. The theme was "Adventures in the Chocolate Factory." Guests of Honor were Jacato, Sova, Taya Bat, and Waggery Costumes by Wild Acai. This iteration of the con saw 3,623 attendees and $15,681 raised for Almost Home, a nonprofit rescue and adoption center for cats.[18]
