Cruel Oasis (stylized in all lowercase as cruel oasis) is the second/sophomore studio album by Canadian-Italian singer songwriter Cassidy Civet. The title is a lyric from her single "Pass You", which was the 4th single from the album and her 7th single overall.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tour for Cassidy's debut album "Double Take" was delayed indefinitely. These months spent at home led to a much more personal project which, after ambitions of releasing it as an EP during lockdown were squashed, pivoted to become her second album.

The album was released on August 4, 2023, which is one week before Wild Prairie Fur Con on August 11 which will be her first con appearance as a Guest of Honor. This date was chosen as it was the first day of her "6 con album tours" in both 2021 and 2022. It is her first album on vinyl.

History & Background[edit]

The album was written largely in quarantine, after Cassidy lost all 4 of her part time jobs due to the pandemic. It is described as her most vulnerable and personal material to date. Though the album remains in written order like her first, with the opener 'Ships' dating back to 2017.

The album contains nearly all of her singles released so far, such as "Sakura", "Black Wolf" and "Raise A Glass". "Let Your Heart Take Flight" and "Hullabaloo" remains her only singles to not be on any album.

This album contains the least amount of Cassidy's own production to date, as most songs outside of 'Ships' and 'look mom no hands' were produced with additional producers. Her remaining original elements include most of the production on 'Mutual' and 'Black Wolf', with her strings being used for 'Crying in the Shower' and 'Madeline Vanfleet'.

The album is also said to contain Cassidy's first use of a sample, as well as the first voice on record that isn't hers.
