ConFuzzled 2022
ConFuzzled 2022 "A World Reborn" was the thirteenth iteration of the convention ConFuzzled, held from 27-31 May 2022 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole in Solihull, England.[1]
Following a survey of convention staff and attendees, the theme originally proposed for ConFuzzled 2020 and ConFuzzled 2021 (the physical instances of which were cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus pandemic), was rolled over with a focus on rebirth, renewal and positivity for the future. ConFuzzled 2022 attracted 2,186 registered attendees (of which 2,079 were able to attend), with animator Adler the Eagle as the Guest of Honour.
Registration[edit]
On August 26 2021 it was announced via the ConFuzzled website[2] and Twitter account[3] that the convention was introducing a lottery process for hotel room allocations. A key trigger for this was that the (ultimately cancelled) 2020 convention sold out both of the convention hotels within seven minutes of registration opening.
Pricing details were announced on November 30 2021.[4] Registration options were the same as in 2019, with attending only and residential tickets, both of which could be upgraded with "Plus", "Sponsor", and "Super Sponsor" options for an extra £15, £50, or £150 respectively.
The basic price for a Standard registration (whether attending only or residential) increased from £90 in 2019 to £100. Hotel rates for the four "core" nights of the convention ranged from £230 to £340 per person depending on the room type, and included breakfast and access to the hotel gym and pool. Early Arrival and/or Late Departure days could be added (subject to availability) for £60 per night for a Standard Single, Double or Twin Room; or £85 per night for an Executive Double or Twin Room.
As a result of feedback that had been received, and an internal review, on December 2 2021 it was announced[5][6] that there would be a separate lottery for those requiring accessible rooms, due to their limited availability, and that accessible rooms would only be available in the Hilton due to the distance between it and the overflow hotel.
Registration opened at 19:00 Greenwich Mean Time (UTC±0) on 29 December 2021,[7] with the lottery for residential registrations closing at 19:00 Greenwich Mean Time (UTC±0) on 12 January 2022.[8]
Registration fully closed at 19:00 British Summer Time (UTC+1) on 30 April 2022.[9]
Charity[edit]
On 11 November 2021 it was announced[10] that the charity for 2022 would be The Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
On 11 June 2022 it was announced[11] that the total amount raised for the charity during the convention was £25,258.82.
