Born to wealthy parents on Cherian, Cherise was found to be possessing of a great intelligence at a very early age. Her ecstatic and proud parents then paid for Cherise to, once old enough, be shipped to the most prestigious Avanguard schools in the galaxy. At the age of four, Cherise said goodbye to her parents, and she didn't see them again until she returned home for a brief week at the age of fifteen. Immediately after that week, the Avanguard took her away and she never saw her parents again.
The Avanguard always has use for quick and talented minds. Cherise was, like all her peers, given the standard Avanguard propaganda and put to work on their various projects. Cherise studied directly under one Harrold Martins, perhaps the greatest Avanguard scientist to ever come about. There were rumours in fact, that Professor Martins was close to making a breakthrough with antimatter hyperdrive technology, but died before he could complete his work. That he chose Cherise personally to study under him was something of a shock to the young otteress.
By the time she was twenty, Cherise had mastered every lesson that her professors had offered her. Not content with teaching her science, Cherise was trained as an engineer as well. Fully qualified to fix any craft in the Avanguard arsenal, Cherise even spent a few short months aboard one of the Avanguard's shipyards, personally assisting in construction on a couple of destroyer-class ships. She quickly became one of the most valuable researchers across the galaxy, and was transferred to the groundside research facility at Merian, where she remained for five more years, working with Avanguard Weapons Research and Development.
To put it mildly, Cherise was a disappointment to the impatient Avanguard. All of her projects were just outside the scope of her superiors, which is perhaps fortunate for Sol Fyres and the Coalition. Had the Avanguard implemented her designs, history could have been written very differently. As it stood though, Cherise was practically disgraced in the Avanguard scientific community as the fleet pulled out funding of yet another of her projects.
It was a week prior to this that she isolated a spike of activity in the Merian database. An infiltrator in the system, working for Sol and tracking Carla Mordred's movements across space to her prison. Rather than immediately turn the hacker in though, Cherise chose to hear him out. While not immediately learning who he worked for and why he was on Merian, she forged a common bond of trust with the fox. When he offered her extraction from the Avanguard, Cherise could hardly contain her excitement.
She was integrated into the crew of the Dark Star very quickly, following the events of her extraction from Merian. Cherise decided to remain aboard the Star, which was built to house a small research lab near the aft of the ship. There she works, until a more suitable lab can be constructed in Coalition territory. She is responsible for the creation of the XM series of magrifle, and is working on many other technologies to assist the Coalition in their struggle against the Avanguard.
