I have to ask... do we really want to have this category? Here are reasons I can think against it:

  • More work when banning a user
  • It would serve to give trolls more attention
  • There is no mechanism for removing a user from this page when their ban expires, so there could be out of date information on here.

Thoughts?

Not really, after banning, just go to their user page and drop in the template with the time and why. Took me two minutes, and its only for 'signed up' users, not IP users.

Only slightly more than Special:Ipblocklist. Its more of so its easy to find them again when they fall off that list and act for record keeping.

True, though if a user is unbanned, I assume they'd remove that template themselves rather than suffer the humiliation from having it there. I guess one thing would be to just ask admins to remember to remove it if they know a ban is going to expire. It also acts to provide an offical notice to the banned user. They can still login and when they do, if this is placed on say their talk page, they will get the 'New Messages' alert and go see it.

What is the difference between this category and Category:WikiFur vandals? Spaz Kitty 22:21, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

Anyone who has the banned template on their page gets added into this category. The Category:WikiFur vandals is more abstract, as I created to track specific users, ISPs, and netblocks that give us problems. --Douglas Muth 22:24, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
