Origin of AWU
The concept of Anthro Weekend Utah was dreamed up by three furries known as Bexis, Rocky and Giga in early 2016. However, it wasn't until later that year that Giga revived the idea of a convention with Bexis and Rocky, this time bringing in a few others- Talon, JoJo, and Charcoal- and began planning what would soon become Anthro Weekend Utah.
Anthro Weekend Utah's inaugural event was held October 27th-28th, 2017 at the Radisson Hotel in Salt Lake City, Utah. The theme this year was "Legalize AWU!", building on the popular "Don't Awoo: $350 Fine" meme. The official attendee count was 457. AWU was honored to host as Guests of Honor Tayerr (aka AlbinoTopaz) and artist RUdragon. The response from the furry community was incredibly positive, and plans have since been finalized to migrate to a larger convention space in order to accommodate future growth.
AWU 2018 will be held on August 10-12th, 2018, at the Davis Convention Center. The theme, as announced at the closing ceremonies of the 2017 convention, is "Bark to the 80's", and will be based around 80's pop-culture (with its own furry spin).
