ABC Island is a PG rated location in Second Life created by ABC Innovations. It was founded by Abi Goldflake, Lise Robbiani, Lolah Ivanova and Arty Pinion for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and was officially opened on March 16, 2007. Other admins (Officers) include: Gary Hazlitt and Willard Bellic. Lise Robbiani and Lolah Ivanova have since left ABC.
It was designed by Gary Hazlitt who also designed Big Pond for Telstra and several other commercial islands including Pontiac.
The Island is popular with Australians and has also gained popularity in the furry community, who see the island as a safe and friendly venue to meet and build. Nine of the island's admin team are furries themselves.

[edit] The Crash
Not long after the island opened, visitors discovered that almost all the features on the island were missing. Early assumptions were that griefers had attacked it during the night and this theory was widely spread by the media, including the Australian newspaper and the ABC itself.[1][2]
Some reports mentioned a crater appearing near the Sandbox area, and boxes with corporate logos were said to have been strewn around the island; however, the crater was merely the Triple J club minus it's roof and the boxes were simply left by Secondlife users who had noticed the "free for all" since the settings were also no longer intact, meaning building was available across the island. It was later discovered that a server had simply lost data, causing the apparent destruction, a backup from an earlier date was all that was required to repair the damage.[3]
